It’s no mystery we have some pretty dang cool movie blogs around here. Two or my favorites, Cool Ass Cinema and Every 70’s Movie both played a part (ha ha) in turning me on to this drive-inn goody. Finally got to watch it last night, thumbs up, it’s a pretty cool Hixploitation flick w all the b-movie pluses – stunts, girls, fights, revenge, weirdos. You know, all the things that make life worth living. You can read two real reviews below and using our Pinewoods Rating System of course, Texas Detour gets Two & 1/2 Pinewoods, not a bad score….The Horror!!

Here’s one you don’t see every day – Charlotte 1972. Never even heard of it, but it’s a goody! Audience capture of a full show, band is on fire! Inexperienced taper but a decent capture nonetheless and they were obviously close to the stage, the natural sound from the drum kit bleed thru ever so slightly, call it an A-…..The Horror!!

THE NAME OF THE BAND WAS 20/20! – THE ALBUM "LOOK OUT" 1981 LA NEW WAVE – THE SHEER HORROR!

20/20 was a great new wave band in LA during those explosive first years of the genre. A couple of mid-west boys came out to jump in the pool, ya dig? They formed this band and got signed rather quickly, this is their second album. Like so many other bands at that time, much of this band’s local
success was due to airplay on KROQ and the album opener here “Nuclear Boy” was in good rotation for a bit. I saw them several times at The Whisky and the band had this really cool thing where they decked the stage out with tall potted plants, tropical looking like they were just hanging out at the beach or something with their band. One or two attempts at reunions but nothing stuck. Fortunately we have the vinyl records to carry on their vibe and legacy….The Horror!!

IT’S THE "ISLAND CLAWS", RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! – 1980 B-FLICK BARRY NELSON COKED OUT – THE HORROR!

You can file this one under O for obscure, ya dig? Island Claws, one of the many blatant Jaws rip-off movies which numbered the hundreds, here we have your basic worthless piece of crap. The one most recognizable star Barry Nelson looks like he’s hung over, coked out, or both. He still manages to turn in something slightly resembling a performance but it truly horrifying to think that he shot this within 6-12 months of The Shining. A couple of real reviews follow, both from recommended blogs- here at THOH, using my Pinewoods Rating System, Island Claws just barely slips in with 1/2 Of A Pinewood….The Horror!!
